FAQ’s: Why do men not like overweight girls? ?Why do men especially not like overweight girls, but some girls don’t mind dating overweight guys? I rarely see an overweight girl with an average/thin man, but often see overweight men with thin girls! Is it fair on overweight people?

  • The answer to this question is simple: most men are shallow! Men want what’s close to perfection believe it or not and in society there’s a double standard between males & females. A female would more likely date an overweight guy because she chooses to look on the inside. The truth is, overweight females usually don’t have confidence or a good self esteem and tend to be clingy. The sexiest thing a female could portray is confidence because that truly makes anyone look better. Living your life how you want and going after the things you want while being comfortable with who you are because you accept yourself is what men want, overweight or not.

When statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were examined in an Youth Risk Behavior study, it was noted that young girls that are overweight or obese are far more likely to take part in sex before even turning 13. These same girls were also more likely to have more than three sexual partners within their lifetime and were unfortunately also more likely to have unprotected sex whether the shape of protection was condoms or contraception.

There have been several studies over time that have shown that those who’re overweight or obese have a shortage of self confidence and a poor self-image in general which, according to Margaret Villers, from the Medical University of South Carolina, is directly related to an increased risk of displaying sexual behavior. Findings supporting the relationship between self-esteem issues and sexual behavior led researchers to then hypothesize that young girls that are overweight automatically are at a higher risk of being sexually active. These statistics are incredibly important to look at because of the quickly rising rate of obesity among teens according to Villers.

Hot Topic: Overweight Girls

In this recent study conducted by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, researchers pulled from pre-existing data from the CDC’s Youth Risk Survey ranging from the years 2003 through 2007. This data was used to directly analyze the trends that existed in the 21, both normal weight, 773 girls, and corpulence, that was used in these studies. This CDC Youth Risk Behavior Study is administered at 2 year intervals and incorporates students in grades ranging from 9 a.m. to 12, therefore providing a national sample for the U.S. The Body Mass Index or BMI of the participants was founded on self-reported height and weight and being overweight or obese was defined by CDC criteria involving both age and sex.

This is very informative, but likewise not the best news. Overweight girls who were surrounded by other overweight girls had no motivation to lose weight. Girls who were within the normal BMI range who had a very large number of underweight peers in their school tending to want to lose weight even though it was not needed, on the other hand. This data appears to indicate that being overweight seems fine to many girls. Being underweight is just as fine for many other girls in different settings. However, few teenage girls in a normal BMI range felt that their weight was perfectly alright. There was a swing to each tip of the pendulum, but not much middle ground and balance.

My youngest daughter had a period in high school where she was quite thin and didn’t believe that she was thin enough. She would show me pictures of certain girls on Facebook or in her year book and in all cases, these girls that she thought to be gorgeous were skeletal in appearance. They didn’t have an ounce of fat on them and yet she couldn’t see that they looked haggard, not beautiful. It’s a sad but true thing for women and girls. Call us healthy and we will immediately suppose that the word ‘healthy’ is a euphemism for fat. I know my daughter thought this as she gained a little bit of weight. I have always felt that way, too.

During this study regarding overweight adolescent girls and risky sexual behavior, researchers evaluated 6 sexual behaviors including things such as who has had sexual intercourse, at what age did these girls have their first sexual experience, and the amount of sexual partners these girls had. Also assessed were elements such as drugs and alcohol and whether or not either was present at the teen girls’ last sexual encounter and also whether or not any kind of protection was used during their last sexual encounter.

While analyzing the data, and paying attention to race and ethnicity, it was noted that African American girls and Hispanic girls were more likely to be overweight. However, race and ethnicity did not seem to make any difference in the area of risky sexual behavior among the girls. Drug and alcohol use among girls that were overweight and engaging in sexual behavior also didn’t seem to play any significant part in differences between sexual activity in overweight girls and normal weight girls.

The study DID however prove that girls who were classified as obese were more likely to have sex at an earlier age (before 13) and overweight girls came in second, still above normal weight girls. Girls that were obese or overweight were also found to be 30% more likely to have more sexual partners (more than 3) within their lifetime as well as 20% more likely to not use protection such as condoms.

What the researchers found out was surprising. Teenage girls were much more likely to base their choices about weight loss and gain on what their friends were doing, and what theirs peers weighed. That turned out to mean that if a woman was in a school where several of the other girls were overweight that being overweight might be just fine and that she was not inclined to attempt to loss weight. Girls who had peers who tended towards the ultra thin side were more likely to want to lose weight even though they were already at a healthy weight, on the other hand. Generally, underweight girls weren’t found to be trying to gain or lose weight.

This is very enlightening, but also not the best news.

Studies involving a relationship between being overweight and risky behavior has rarely been researched in terms of adolescents. Most studies involving weight and sexual behavior have been aimed toward adults.

Therefore, the effects of this study are that adolescent girls that are overweight or obese MAY be engaging in sexual behavior that is high-risk which could in turn but them at an even higher risk of contracting sexual transmitted diseases and at a higher risk of becoming pregnant. It is necessary to research this issue further, with a view to try and comprehend why these particular adolescent girls are turning to sexual behavior in order to increase their identification or self-image. Once an understanding is reached, professionals will be in a position to develop interventions for these high-risk adolescent girls.
